Defying the Ku Klux Klan Aka The KKk

Who are the KKK?
The KU Klux Klan are a group of people that are very intolerant and extremists of anyone that is not white, straight and Christian. They are typically called white supremacists.  The KKK main goal was to keep the “American values and tradition”, this group wanted to maintain America as traditional as possible. People that promoted changes or bring changes themselves were victims of the KKK.  People with different backgrounds and customs were their main target, Jews, Catholics, African American people and recent immigrants were blame of this social upraise. The KKK group is well known for its violent actions against minorities groups. I choose to focus on chapter seven from Mightier than the Sword: How the News Media have Shaped American History because the KKK is still an issue on our society, even though they are not as open as they were in the 1920’s they still are terrorizing our society.

The Klan remains the one with the greatest number of national and local organizations around the country. After a period of relative quiet, Ku Klux Klan activity has increase noticeably in 2006, as Klan groups have attempted to implement fears in America over gay marriage, perceived “assaults” on Christianity, crime and especially immigration. The Ku Klux Klan focused its anger and violence on African-Americans, on white Americans who stood up for them, and against the federal government which supported their rights. The Various incarnations of the Klan have been responsible for hundreds and hundreds Murders, arsons, bombings, rapes, assaults, and other crimes.  Klansman have committed, and continue to commit, acts of terrorism and major violence, weapons and explosive violations, hate crimes, crimes against police officers, other crimes to further their cause, and a number of coincidental crimes.

Last night when I was watching the news as usual, I watched this report about a family that was receiving hated and terrorizing letters on their mail. In their letter this people were ask to leave Texas or they were going to pay the priced for not obeying their order. This family decided to keep their identity secret because they were afraid of being physically attack by this people, since they know their names and address.  Journalism is an important source because people otherwise would not have idea this was still happening. Journalism main purpose is to protect people by keeping us informed.
